JICA President Akihiko Tanaka met in Tokyo on February 12 with Republic of Palau President Slangel Whipps Jr.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Tanaka congratulated President Whipps on his second term as President and thanked him for his understanding and cooperation with JICA projects. He also expressed JICA’s desire to cooperate for the development of Palau in order to further strengthen relations between the two countries, in light of the results of the 10th Pacific and Pacific Islands Summit (PALM 10) held in Tokyo last year.
In response, President Whipps expressed his appreciation for Japan’s cooperation in Palau’s infrastructure development, climate change measures, and other areas, and expressed his desire to continue to deepen cooperation between the two countries and maintain and strengthen the “tokubetsu” relationship between Palau and Japan.
In addition, the two sides exchanged a wide range of views on future cooperation possibilities for sustainable economic and social development.
