IHG Hotels & Resorts operates 19 hotel brands with more than 6,500 hotels in over 100 countries. In Japan, the company operates about 47 hotels under eight brands from Hokkaido to Okinawa, and two hotels in Micronesia (as of September 2024). For this interview, we asked Clayton Darlington, general manager of the Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan, about the attractions around the hotel.

–How did you come to work at the Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan?
Working at an island resort has always been the cornerstone of my career aspirations, and I remember my passion for the industry was ignited during a family vacation to a resort when I was 11 years old. From that moment on, I knew this was the path I wanted to take.
After sharing my career goals with IHG in early 2022 and expressing my desire to work at an island resort, I received an exciting offer in Micronesia at the end of 2023 and I accepted the opportunity without hesitation. Since joining the team on Saipan, I have truly enjoyed every moment of this rewarding experience.
–What kind of hotel is it?
Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan is the perfect family resort overlooking a beautiful micro beach, offering a place for everyone to relax. A relaxing and active experience, the resort offers a variety of entertainment and dining options, including the Atari Dinner Show, a dining and entertainment show, iShop Gift Shop for shopping, The Terrace restaurant, Teppanyaki Mai, Marketplace Café, and Mali Bar. American Memorial Park is one of the island’s most beautiful spots for a leisurely nature walk or jog. The park has a pristine white shoreline that it shares with a micro beach and is home to a variety of bird species.
Located in the heart of Saipan, the hotel offers easy access to numerous restaurants within walking distance and nearby beach parks for both relaxation and exploration.
–What restaurant menu do you recommend?
At The Terrace restaurant, our culinary team has carefully selected international cuisine to provide a one-of-a-kind island dining experience. Each dish combines local flavors and creativity to create a dining experience unlike any other on Saipan.
The island’s only teppanyaki restaurant, Teppanyaki Mai, offers fresh local produce skillfully prepared, including premium beef, lobster, foie gras, seafood, and seasonal vegetables.
–What souvenirs do you recommend?
