On February 18, Daiwa House Industry Co., Ltd. held a handover ceremony for the bus terminal it has developed at the former site of the Osaka Maru Building (1-9-20 Umeda, Kita-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture). The bus terminal will be provided free of charge to the Japan Association for the International Exposition, 2025, from April 13 to October 13.
A temporary waiting area, boarding and waiting areas were built on the site. A new elevator was also built to enhance accessibility from the basement. A large balloon of “Myakmyak,” the official character of the Osaka-Kansai Expo, was installed above the elevators to increase visibility from Osaka Station and other locations.
In the waiting area, a large artwork created by Expo special supporter, Mr. Takataka Aoki, is on display. In addition, to allow visitors to enjoy the history and future of the Osaka Maru Building, XR content was prepared to allow visitors to experience images of the Osaka Maru Building before and after its reconstruction, along with a monument displaying the demolished walls of the Osaka Maru Building.
EV buses and self-driving buses (Level 4) are scheduled to operate during the Expo (April 13-October 13).
