Mobile ICOCA to be compatible with commuter pass for junior high and high school students from March 15.

Posted on 2025-02-192025-03-27 by Editor in Chief

JR West will begin handling commuter passes for junior high and high school students with “Mobile ICOCA” and “Apple Pay ICOCA” on March 15.

Until now, junior high and high school commuter passes have been handled only by card-type ICOCA, but the new mobile version allows customers to purchase commuter passes without standing in line at station counters. In addition, customers can earn triple WESTER points when purchasing with a J-WEST card, making it possible to use the commuter pass at a discount.

To purchase a new ICOCA ticket, prepare a proof of commuting that shows the section to be commuted and apply for the ticket through the ICOCA application or browser. The card for payment in the applicant’s name must be registered in the ICOCA application or set to Apple Pay, or a parent or guardian can enter credit card or other payment card information to make the purchase on behalf of the applicant.

If you are using an iPhone or Apple Watch, you can import your ICOCA commuter pass. In addition, if you wish to purchase a commuter pass for junior high or high school students or make payments by proxy, you will need to update to the new version of the ICOCA application, which will be released on March 15, 2012.
