On February 20, Yusen Cruises held an opening cruise presentation for Asuka III, its first new cruise ship in 34 years.
Asuka III will start service on July 20, and the opening cruise, a total of 17 courses, will call at 30 ports in Japan (excluding the port of Yokohama) until October 21. Reservations will be accepted from April 3 on the official website or through travel agencies.
As for the Asuka Cruise brand, Asuka II (launched in 2006) and Asuka III will be operated as two ships starting this summer. Asuka II is a “proposal-type cruise” that actively guides passengers on how to spend their time on board, while Asuka III is a “choice-type cruise” that can be customized according to passengers’ preferences.
Hiroyuki Endo, President and Representative Director, said, “For example, even if we wanted Japanese people to enjoy a 10-day cruise, it is difficult for them to take a large amount of time off. The domestic cruise market is inevitably dominated by people with time on their hands (retirees). I want to somehow make people discover the joys of cruising from their working years.
Ideally, we would like to have people ride from childhood if possible. We want to enhance our business so that people can enjoy cruises even if their lifestyles and preferences change. In this regard, we believe that our business alliance with Disney Cruises (scheduled to begin service in FY2028) is a wonderful opportunity,” he commented.
