The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Grant Agreement (G/A) with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on February 25 in Addis Ababa, the capital of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, for the “Promoting Climate Resilient Farming through the Development of Outdoor Agricultural Schools in Conflict Affected Communities in the Northern Region (FAO Partnership)”. A Grant Agreement (G/A) was signed with the FAO for the “Climate Resilient Farming Promotion Program through the Development of Outdoor Agricultural Schools in Conflict-Affected Communities in the Northern Region (FAO Collaboration)”.

Business Objectives
This project will contribute to the improvement and maintenance of irrigation infrastructure in the conflict-affected areas of the three northern regions (Tigray, Amhara, and Afar) and the provision of agricultural materials and equipment (seeds, fertilizers, agricultural training materials and equipment, etc.). The project aims to contribute to the early recovery and improvement of agricultural productivity in northern Ethiopia through the reconstruction of the livelihoods of local people through resilient agriculture.

(a) Capacity building for implementing Farmers Field Schools (FFS) for small farmers and extension workers
(b) Development of a community-based seed production system using the FFS method
c) Strengthening the capacity of extension agents and farmers on post-harvest handling
