JR West Japan announced the train designs and the start date of operation for the Sanyo Shinkansen “ONE PIECE Shinkansen” with original designs expressing the world of “ONE PIECE” written by Eiichiro Oda.

The “Grand Rail” is a train service that runs mainly between Shin-Osaka and Hakata as the “Kodama” train.
The first train, “Setouchi Blue,” features a blue color scheme inspired by the Seto Inland Sea and a design featuring many characters, especially the “Straw Hat gang. The second train, “Tony Tony Chopper,” features the iconic color scheme of the popular character Chopper, with a cute design that will be familiar to people of all ages. The third train, “Monkey D. Luffy,” is based on the motif of the main character Luffy’s straw hat, and the body of the train is decorated with Luffy in clothes that symbolize each stage of the story.
The interior of each car is decorated with wrapping that links to the exterior of each car. In addition, the mirrors on some washbasins are decorated with the word “WANTED” in the style of an order form. The passengers can enjoy the reflection of themselves in the mirror as if they are being wanted.
The in-train chime melody at each station is the first opening theme song of the TV animation “ONE PIECE” “We Are! and the “familiar phrases” arranged for the Shinkansen chimes are also used for the in-train chime melodies when departing from or arriving at certain stations. In addition, Luffy (CV: Mayumi Tanaka) on the 1st and 3rd trains and Chopper (CV: Ikue Otani) on the 2nd train will make announcements in the train (during arrival and departure at some stations), calling out to the passengers to get them excited about the trip. Both are original soundtracks that can only be heard on the “ONE PIECE Shinkansen.
Original goods will also go on sale on April 12, including A4 clear files (440 yen), die-cut panel key chains (Luffy/Nika, 825 yen each), panel magnets (Luffy/Setouchi Blue, 770 yen each), and more.
