The final event of “Mongolia Open Innovation and Co-Creation for SDGs (MICS) 2024” was held in Ulaanbaatar on Friday, February 7, 2025. MICS is a program that supports a wide range of stakeholders in industry, government, academia, and finance in both countries to bring together technologies, ideas, funds, and other resources to co-create innovative solutions and work together to achieve the SDGs.
Ten collaborative project teams, which aim to solve social issues in both countries, presented their final pitches in front of 140 participants including government agencies, educational institutions, NGOs, start-ups, and other companies from both Japan and Mongolia. At this event, the Development Bank of Mongolia announced that it would provide partial support for the implementation costs of the “Reuse and Recycling Technology Development Project for Used HEV/EV Batteries and Collaborative Know-how Exchange Project”.
After the MICS event, Mr. Isao Nakamura, who worked as a business exchange specialist at the Mongolia-Japan Human Resources Development Center for 7 years from 2017, gave a commemorative lecture on Japan-Mongolia collaboration in commemoration of his return to Japan, and many Mongolian companies that received support attended the venue. Networking with 10 collaborative projects and Mongolian companies was held at the venue, and the following comments were made: “I would like to participate in next year’s MICS because there are many projects in collaboration with Japan and there are opportunities for technology transfer and human resource exchange,” “There are many nature-friendly projects such as recycling and reuse, which will be important issues for Mongolia in the future, and I would like to participate in the MICS in the future. I would like to participate in next year’s MICS because there are many projects in cooperation with Japan and there are opportunities for technology transfer and human resource exchange. I would like to participate in next year’s MICS because there are many projects that offer opportunities for technology transfer and human resource exchange.
Through the kick-off event held in June last year, 10 selected collaborative projects have received mentoring and technical support from Japanese and Mongolian supporters with partial subsidies for travel expenses between Japan and Mongolia, and have worked with new Japanese and Mongolian companies, NGOs, and educational institutions to promote co-creation and collaboration to solve social issues and achieve the SDGs in Mongolia. We have promoted co-creation and collaboration to solve social issues and achieve the SDGs in Mongolia. Five of these collaborative projects have received partial support for implementation costs from JICA and supporting organizations. As a result of these activities, many projects have been able to build cooperative relationships with Japanese partners and have been able to materialize their activities.
The 10 collaborative projects will continue to work toward concrete social implementation and resolution of social issues. If you are interested in any of these projects, please feel free to contact JICA Mongolia office (mg_oso_rep@jica.go.jp ).
