On March 3, UNIQLO held a presentation in Tokyo to announce new products for 2025 in the “Kando Pants” and “Kando Jacket” series of high-function suits that specialize in lightweight, stretchy, and quick-drying properties.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the birth of “Dry Stretch Pants (Wool-Like),” the predecessor of the Impression Pants, and both companies gave presentations on their commitment to the material, which was jointly developed by Toray and UNIQLO. The speakers were Yukihiro Katsuta, Senior Executive Officer, Fast Retailing Group, and Motokazu Ishikawa, General Manager, Global SCM Business Division, Toray Industries, Inc.
The main features of the Moukin series, which has established itself as UNIQLO’s flagship product, are that it stretches to accommodate movement and posture, dries quickly after sweating or washing, and is lightweight by daring to use a coarse weave while maintaining its firmness. It also has properties such as not sticking to the skin even in the sweaty summer, and ventilating well to reduce a feeling of stuffiness.
While “lightweight, stretchy, and quick-drying” are the biggest selling points, one concern is whether they look cheap. Toray’s Mr. Ishikawa says that the most difficult part of the development process was to make the fabric look cheap. According to Toray’s Mr. Ishikawa, what was particularly difficult in the development process was to create suits that “look like natural materials despite being made of synthetic fibers,” and over the past 10 years, the materials have been updated by reducing the sheen and adding UV-cut functions, resulting in suits that have a crisp and elegant texture, but also have the ability to be worn in a variety of everyday situations. The result is a suit that “looks like a natural material in spite of being made of synthetic fibers.
Users have commented that the garments are not only functional and comfortable, but also fashionable, saying that they are “useful in a wide range of situations, from business casual to everyday outings,” “an ironing board for people who travel a lot,” “can be washed in a net and dried as usual, so they don’t wrinkle and don’t need ironing,” “look sleek and stylish,” and “don’t cause any pain in the belly when you stoop over and feel like you are wearing jerseys. They are highly regarded not only for their functionality and comfort, but also for their fashion sense.
The product lineup for 2025 consists of a total of 13 items. In addition to the six existing items sold throughout the year, two new items went on sale at the end of January, and the first five items from UNIQLO:C, which focuses on design, were released on February 28 as 2025 spring/summer products.
