Japan Airport Building Co., Ltd. has completed the connection work between the main building and the northern satellite (annex) of Haneda Airport Terminal 2, and the new building will be put into service on March 19. Prior to this, a joint tour with ANA was held on March 10.
Until now, travel from the main building to the north satellite required a dedicated bus ride (approximately 3 minutes). Now, the facilities have been expanded and connected as one building, allowing passengers to come and go directly from the main building.
The three-story building will have a departure area on the second floor and an arrival area on the third floor, with two tenants (Seven-Eleven and Edomae Sushi Mataikoiya) opening on the second floor.
In addition, up to five new boarding gates 50A/B, 51A/B, and 52 will be built in the extension to allow direct boarding from the terminal to aircraft. 50-51 are “fixed bridge multi-operation boarding gates” where two small aircraft (Airbus A321/A320, Boeing 737) can park at the same time.
Boarding gates 46-48, which were operated by the satellite, will be renamed 47-49.
With this connection, the number of flights using buses on domestic routes is expected to decrease from 40% to 20% per day for both departures and arrivals.
In addition, from March 30, boarding gates 66 to 70 on the south side of Terminal 2 will be dedicated to international flights. The number of international departures will increase by +4 flights to a total of 34, making it easier to connect with domestic flights.
In the latter half of the tour, a demonstration of the “iino” self-driving mobility vehicle was held. Two units will be introduced in the area connecting the satellite to the main building on the north side of Terminal 2 (boarding gates 52-47) as a service to support transportation in conjunction with the terminal expansion. Operation hours are from 8:00 to 20:00, with one round trip taking approximately 30 minutes.
