Ride an ATV and enjoy the spectacular scenery of the North Shore & contribute to Hawaii!

Posted on 2025-03-102025-04-12 by Editor in Chief

Whether you are a traveler or a resident of Hawaii, driving to the North Shore is an exciting way to get into the traveling mood. This time, we would like to introduce an activity to take such an exciting drive and enjoy the spectacular scenery of the North Shore on an ATV.

The goal is a 67-acre tract of land on the Haleiwa shoreline. (It’s about the same size as the Tokyo Dome (as promised), which would be about six or so. We used to be able to enjoy horseback riding here, but now it’s an ATV tour; an ATV is like a motorcycle version of an ATV, and we were told it’s a four-wheel drive.

First, watch a video explaining the operation of the ATV. There is also one with Japanese subtitles, so let’s request it. The owner, Adam-san, is a fifth-generation Japanese American and spoke a little Japanese. I borrowed a helmet and got on the ATV.

ATVs are available in large, medium, and small sizes, with the smallest size allowing drivers 10 years of age and older. Passengers must be at least 8 years old to ride in the passenger seat.

What makes this tour interesting is that you can drive an ATV along the coastline, see the mountains, drive through banana and papaya trees, and experience the wonders of Hawaii’s nature. In addition to that, you can also take part in activities to protect Hawaii’s nature.

In fact, the sustainable practices of the land are an important concept of this tour. It includes the experience of planting native Hawaiian plants to prevent erosion of the shoreline, and you get to choose your favorite plants before you get on the ATV to start.

As soon as they started, they parked their ATV on the shoreline and planted plants in the holes they had already dug. The land had large piles of waste, they said, and they removed them and are now working to sustainably protect the land by planting Hawaiian plants.

The comfort of slowly moving through endless blue skies, blue seas, and dark greens can be found at ……! At key points, Adam will stop the ATV and give you a briefing, and you can take pictures at that time.

The operation of the ATV is simple, and the staff members run in front of and behind you, so if something happens, such as the engine not starting, they will help you immediately.

It was interesting to see animals everywhere along the way (they called them ohana = family) and to see up close the cows, horses, pigs, goats, and sheep living freely and spontaneously. I was amazed at the size of the pigs: ……. They eat the weeds of unwanted invasive species.

We also got off the ATVs at Kaiakea Bay, which has been considered a sacred place, and at the straw-wiping hut, where Adam explained the ancient Hawaiian history of the area.

The 45 minutes flew by in a blink of an eye. It was a fulfilling time for me to think about the history and future of Hawaii as well as the activities in the great outdoors that I had just run through. The staff was very friendly and cheerful, and I was able to experience the charm of Hawaii through their interaction with me. The fee for this tour is $125.

Now, on your way home, why not take a little trip through the city of Wahiawa? In the residential area of this town, there is a street known to those in the know as “Royal Palm Drive” where royal palms are majestically lined up in rows.

If you get hungry, be sure to visit Maui Maike’s, previously introduced in this town.
