JR Tokai, JR Tokai Real Estate, JR Tokai Hotels, and Marriott International announced that the Courtyard by Marriott Kyoto Shijo-Karasuma (668 Nicho-Hanjo-cho, Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture) is scheduled to open in August.
The Royal Park Hotel Kyoto Shijo (completed in 2018, will cease operations in September 2024), adjacent to Shijo Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway Karasuma Line, will be acquired, renovated and operated.
The theme of the guest rooms is “fusion of modern and past Kyoto townscape. The hotel has a total of 125 rooms (22-47m2) on 9 floors above ground and 1 below.
The all-day dining restaurant is operated by Le Bon Vivre, a bakery Shinshindo has been operating in Kyoto for over 100 years. The restaurant mainly serves Western-style food from breakfast to dinner. The restaurant is open to non-guests as well.
It will open before the Courtyard by Marriott Kyoto Station (19-1 Higashi Kujo Higashi Sannocho, Minami-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, scheduled to open in 2026), which was announced in December 2024.
Therefore, the Kyoto Shijo-Karasuma branch will be the first opening of a JR Tokai Group hotel in the Kansai region, and the first opening of a Marriott brand hotel in Kyoto under the Courtyard by Marriott brand.
