Kansai Airport grand opening on March 27 after completing construction of the main functions of Tamiami No. 1. We saw the new immigration checkpoint for international flights and the vast business lounge.

KIX has been undergoing a large-scale renovation in phases for the first time since the opening of the port in 1994, and Phase 3, the construction of the terminal’s main functions, has been completed in advance of the Osaka-Kansai Expo, which opens in April.

On March 15, Kansai Airport opened to the press the newly built 3rd floor immigration area (north) and other facilities at Kansai International Airport Terminal 1 (KIX T1).

3rd floor International Lounge:opening March 27

The immigration area, previously located on the 2nd floor, has been relocated to the 3rd floor and switched to integrated north-south operation through a connecting corridor. The area has been expanded from approximately 1,900 m2 to approximately 2,300 m2 with an open space and an open layout aimed at smooth immigration/inspection.

The international security checkpoint on the 4th floor will be expanded from approximately 3,500 m2 to approximately 6,300 m2 at the grand opening. The number of smart lanes will be increased to a maximum of 22, and throughput will be increased to approximately 6,000 passengers per hour through faster security checks.

The international lounge on the 3rd floor has been renewed in one location as a shared lounge for passengers of each airline operating in T1. KIX Lounge Kansai” (approx. 2970m2, 658 seats), a spacious business lounge based on the concept of an ancient city and city, and “KIX Lounge Premium” (approx. 800m2, 143 seats), an upscale lounge for the highest class passengers such as first and business class passengers. Each lounge is equipped with shower booths, nursing rooms, phone booths, massage chairs, and other amenities.

In conjunction with the grand opening, a total of 13 new stores will open in three locations on the 4th floor International Departure Area, 3rd floor International Arrival Area, and 2nd floor Food Court to meet the wide-ranging needs of international flight passengers, including food and beverage, service, and duty-free.
