Tama City, Tokyo, will hold a grand opening of Tama Central Park (2-35 Ochiai, Tama City, Tokyo), which is undergoing renovation and maintenance, at 11:00 a.m. on April 5.

This 11-hectare hilltop park in the center of Tama City has been undergoing renovation and improvement to become an even better place for local residents to relax, along with the renewal of the Parthenon Tama park facility and the construction of a new central library, due to aging and changes in the surrounding environment.

The renewal of the park, while maintaining the park’s unique features such as the large lawn and the beautiful scenery around the large pond, has enhanced the park’s functions by strengthening the disaster prevention measures of the large lawn, installing various benches on the terrace in front of the large pond, and creating a BOOK Park next to the library where visitors can enjoy reading books in comfort.

The sparkling plaza in front of the grand staircase of Parthenon Tama will expand the use of water, providing a water playground for children in the summer and lighting up the fountain for nighttime events.

The park, which makes full use of the greenery around the outer perimeter parkway, has facilities such as the former Tomizawa family residence and the Green Live Center, and two new dining facilities, “Zelkova House” and “Flower & Bakery Cafe,” will be opened through the publicly solicited Park-PFI system.

To celebrate the grand opening, the 5th Park Life Show will be held on April 5 from 11:00 to 20:00. Visitors can enjoy music, art, a marché, and more at the reborn Tama Central Park.

Access is a 5-minute walk from Tama Center Station on the Keio Line, Odakyu Line, and Tama Urban Monorail.
