Shogakukan will release “BE-PAL Special CHUMS 16x ZOOM “Booby Bird” Monocular” on April 1. The price is 2,800 yen. It will be available at bookstores nationwide, Seven-Eleven, and online.
This special book with monocular is a collaboration with the outdoor brand CHUMS. The eye-catching design features the brand’s iconic boobybird character and a red strap with the brand’s logo, and is recommended not only for bird-watching, but also for indoor activities such as field work, watching sports, live performances, and theater.
It is compact and easy to carry, and even small children can handle it because the strap can be used over the hand to prevent it from falling.
The monocular has a high magnification of 16x that allows the user to clearly see distant objects, and it can be used at night as long as there is a light source. The wide range of focusing distance from 3m to infinity is also a key point, and the focus can be easily adjusted by simply turning the two rings.
The package also includes an introductory article on bird watching supervised by Toshitaka Suzuki, an animal linguist and author of “I Understand Bird Language,” published by Shogakukan.
