On March 24, Nagoya Railroad announced its decision to commercialize the Nagoya Station Area Redevelopment Plan. The details of the plan will be announced after a formal agreement is reached with the joint venture partners (Meitetsu Urban Development, Nippon Life Insurance, Kinki Nippon Railway, and Kintetsu Real Estate).

This project will be promoted together with the redevelopment of Meitetsu Nagoya Station on a site located at 1-2 Meieki 1-chome, Nakamura-ku, Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, and other locations. The site area is approximately 32,700 m2 and the total floor area is approximately 520,000 m2.

The two buildings will house a train station, bus terminal, commercial facilities, offices, and a hotel, and are expected to open first in FY2033 (except for a portion of the commercial facilities) and fully open in the early 2040s.

Meitetsu Nagoya Station will be renovated in the first phase in FY2033 and in the second phase in the early 2040s. Through “Terminal Square,” a plaza space to be developed by Nagoya City, Meitetsu Nagoya Station will serve as a regional transportation hub, providing smooth transfers between linear and other modes of transportation.

Specifically, the current two lines will be expanded to four lines, with separate platforms for different destinations, etc., and a new ticket gate will be installed near the Sasajima intersection. To enhance access to Centrair (Central Japan International Airport), an “Airport Access Platform” will be introduced, and platform doors and barrier-free access will be installed.

As a result of this redevelopment, the Meitetsu Department Store Main Store will cease operations on February 28, 2026, the Meitetsu Grand Hotel on March 22, 2026, and the Meitetsu Bus Center at the end of March of the same year. The bus center is expected to have an alternative function in the vicinity of Nagoya Station.
