The Metropolitan Expressway announced traffic congestion forecasts for April through May, including the GW period (April 26-May 6).
While weekdays around the GW holidays (April 18, 24, and 25) will be congested from early morning until late at night due to the concentration of business traffic, etc., traffic congestion is expected to be relatively low during the GW period (April 27, 29, May 5, and 6). However, localized traffic congestion, such as on the Tokyo Bay Aqua-line and Bayshore Route, should be noted.
Heavy traffic congestion is expected from Tokyo to Haneda Airport, especially at Kawasaki Ukishima JCT. Since the transit time may be more than three times longer than usual, we advise you to take an early restroom break or use the West Exit of the No. 1 Haneda Line.
In addition, traffic congestion is expected to be particularly high on May 3 due to the concentration of leisure traffic. In particular, congestion is expected to begin earlier than usual in the vicinity of outing spots such as shopping malls in Kisarazu and Chiba, leisure spots in Kasai and Maihama, tidal pools in Kanazawa and Hakkei-jima, and shopping malls in Minatomirai. Specific times and locations are as follows.
Aqua-line: Traffic jam on the Wangan Line, starting from Kawasaki Ukishima JCT, after 6:00 a.m.
Kasai/Maihama: Exit congestion at Kasai on the Bayshore Route (eastbound) after 6:00 a.m.
Kanazawa/Hakkeijima: Exit congestion at Sachiura on the Bayshore Route (westbound) after 8:00 a.m.
Minato Mirai: Exit congestion at Minato Mirai on Yokohane Line (down) after 8:00 a.m.
The Metropolitan Expressway is urging people to avoid congestion by changing the days and times of use, and to check the latest traffic conditions using the “mew-ti” road traffic information application before departure.
