Will it be possible to buy a school commuter pass without a paper proof of enrollment? Demonstration experiment to purchase a student discount ticket with a miner card is now open to the public.

Using a miner card and digital authentication, students can pass through the ticket gate with a face pass. The applications used in the demonstration experiment are the “Digital Authentication Application” issued by the Digital Agency, the “Microsoft Authenticator” which serves as a wallet to store digital school certificates, and the “Machi The three types of apps are “Otomo Passport” for purchasing digital tickets. By linking these applications with the “Certificate of Enrollment Issuance Service” built by NII and JR West’s membership infrastructure service “MAB,” online issuance of certificates of enrollment, user authentication, and digital ticket purchase are realized. Osaka University students actually operate the application themselves to obtain their certificates of enrollment online, and purchase digital tickets for students sold by JR West, along with identification using their My Number Card. Then, using their pre-registered facial information, the students passed through the face recognition ticket gate installed at JR Osaka Station without any assistance. The process from obtaining a digital student ID card to purchasing a ticket for a student The system required the use of multiple applications and Web services, and the procedure from obtaining a digital student ID card to purchasing a ticket seemed rather complicated due to the fact that this was a demonstration experiment. Although the Osaka University students who participated in the demonstration experiment were probably accustomed to operating smartphones, there were some moments when they seemed to be at a bit of a loss. Nevertheless, the students who participated in the experiment were very positive about the convenience of the system, as it eliminates the need to go to the university office to obtain a certificate of enrollment even if they have nothing to do, or to wait for more than 30 minutes at the transportation counter, which they currently find troublesome.

The Digital Agency is in charge of the utilization of the My Number Card, and Mr. Takanori Toriyama, Planning and Coordination Officer of the Services for Citizens Group, who is in charge of the utilization of the My Number Card, explained that the benefits of this demonstration experiment include “improved convenience by enabling students to obtain certificates of enrollment and purchase student discount tickets without having to wait in line at school or transportation counters, as well as reducing the number of people needed to man the counters of educational institutions and transportation agencies. We expect that this will improve convenience by enabling students to obtain certificates of enrollment and purchase student discount tickets without standing in line at school or transportation counter counters, and also reduce the workload and labor requirements of educational institutions and transportation agencies,” explained Mr. Toriyama. In addition, he pointed out that the model for this verification experiment will be built in collaboration with the Digital Agency, JR West, NII, OIDF-J, Osaka University, and industry-academia-government, thereby ensuring reliability, reducing verification costs, and allowing for scalability of the issuing institution (in this case, issuance of student enrollment certificates) and the verification institution (in this case, verification of the student’s identity and the student’s enrollment certificate by JR West). He pointed out that the key point is to anticipate the scalability of the issuing institution (in this case, the issuance of the certificate of enrollment) and the verifying institution (in this case, the verification of the certificate of enrollment and the individual). He added, “JR West and Osaka University participated in this experiment, but in the future we would like to expand the use of the system by supporting multiple universities and multiple student discount verification organizations, as well as expand the verification experiment to include overseas markets. Hideo Okuda, Director and Managing Executive Officer, General Manager of Digital Solution Division of JR West, who will serve as the verifying organization for this verification experiment, said, “The vision of society that the Digital Agency is aiming for through the use of digital technology and the vision that JR West is aiming for through its digital strategy are very close. I thought we could realize a wonderful future with a greater sense of speed and speed, so I decided to get involved in this experiment. He also mentioned that “we feel that it is particularly meaningful that industry, academia, and government are working together, rather than just the private sector,” and added that the project will include the linkage of the My Number Card with MAB (Mobility Auth Bridge), an open-type membership infrastructure service that connects local governments and companies, as well as the use of JR West’s “WESTER” service. He also stated that he would like to expand the service and develop new services through linkage with the “MAB (Mobility Auth Bridge),” an open membership infrastructure service that connects with local governments and businesses, and with JR West’s “WESTER” service. The demonstration experiment ended with the demonstration conducted on March 24. The company intends to identify issues based on the knowledge gained from the demonstration, including improvements to the ticket purchase process, and to conduct further research and development for social implementation, as well as to take the service to the next level in cooperation with educational institutions other than Osaka University.
