At 20:00 on April 5, the Metropolitan Expressway began a 10-year long-term road closure of the Yaesu Line between Kandabashi JCT and Nishi-Ginza JCT in preparation for the undergrounding of the Nihonbashi section. During the period, the Yaesu Exit and Marunouchi Exit will also be unavailable.
In conjunction with the undergrounding project, the “Shin-Kyobashi connecting road” from Kyobashi to Yaesu will be constructed toward FY2035, forming a future route for the central ring road that does not go through Edobashi JCT (Edobashi JCT connecting road will be discontinued).
With this route realignment, the KK line (near Kyobashi JCT to near Shiodome JCT) managed by Tokyo Expressway was discontinued as of the same time, and the Shin-Kyobashi exit, Nishi-Ginza entrance, Dobashi entrance, and Shinbashi entrance were also discontinued.
Upon checking the site, we confirmed that some entrances, such as Shimbashi, had begun closing before 20:00, and that main line closure operations started after 21:30, and that around 22:00, the Yaesu Line Nishi-Ginza Toll Gate display changed from “ETC/General” and “ETC Only” to “Closed” for both.
The KK line will be rehabilitated and utilized as a pedestrian-oriented public space.
