On April 9, ANA announced new Premium Economy Class and Economy Class seats for international flights. Both seats are made by RECARO Aircraft Seating and will be gradually introduced on Boeing 787-9 aircraft starting in fiscal 2026.
As previously reported, the seat pitch in Pre-Eco class has been increased from 38 to 40 inches (approx. 101 cm), and the seat recline has been increased from 7 to 9 inches (approx. 23 cm). In Economy Class, the seat pitch remains the same, but the seat recline has been increased from 4 inches to 6 inches. In addition, the knee area in Economy Class has been improved to provide an additional 1 inch of space.
According to ANA, the amount of reclining in economy class has generally been 4 inches (approx. 10 cm), and for Japanese airlines, reclining up to 6 inches (approx. 15 cm) would cause significant interference with the seat behind. ANA says that this issue has been resolved by maintaining the existing Economy Class seat pitch (33-34 inches) and improving the knee area.
ANA is also planning a new business class seat, and plans to unveil the new Pre-Eco and Economy seats together at the Paris Air Show in June.
