I saw an unmanned demo flight of SkyDrive’s flying car. Two point-to-point and orbiting flights to be conducted in the summer.

On April 13, the Osaka-Kansai Expo (EXPO 2025) will open in Yumeshima, Osaka. Here we report on scenes from the media day held prior to the opening of the Expo.

SkyDrive, an air mobility startup, conducted a demonstration flight of its flying car (SkyDrive type SD-05) at the Expo Vertiport, located at the northwest end of the venue.

Although the aircraft only climbed to an altitude about three times that of the aircraft, probably due to the limited space and the large number of media gathered around it, the low noise level of the multicopter model driven by electricity and the fact that it can fly unmanned without a person in the driver’s seat suggest that it is very close to being put into practical use. The content of the presentation was very close to the practical application of this technology.

Based on this success, a two-point-to-point and orbiting flight is planned for this summer.
