On April 13, the Osaka-Kansai Expo (EXPO 2025) will open in Yumeshima, Osaka. Here we report on scenes from the media day held prior to the opening of the Expo.
JAL unveiled the immersive theater “Sora Cruise” at the Flying Car Station (P07).
Images are projected on four walls and the floor to create an immersive image of a journey in the future, slightly ahead of the practical application of flying cars. Haptics (tactile feedback) linked to the full-surrounding images are installed in the floor, so visitors can enjoy the feeling of actually traveling over Osaka in a flying car.
Kumiko Miyasaka, Managing Executive Officer and General Manager of the West Japan Branch Office, who took the stage prior to the press release, introduced the series of videos as “an experience as if you were actually flying in the sky, so you can feel more familiar with the sky. She also expressed her desire for the three Myakmyak JET aircraft operated by the JAL Group to continue contributing to the excitement of the Expo, as well as to attract inbound visitors, many of whom are expected to visit the Expo, to visit various regions of Japan.
Mr. Miyasaka said, “Being restricted in our mobility by the Corona disaster has made us rethink our value. Having provided social infrastructure, we want to further refine it and solve social issues by creating relationships and connections through mobility. Flying cars are a once-in-a-century mobility revolution. They are expected to be used for a variety of purposes, such as on-demand transportation to the people you want to see and the places you want to go, maintenance of regional transportation infrastructure, and disaster response,” he said, explaining his vision of the future with the realization of flying cars.
