JR East will expand five functions, including Ekinetto, by the end of FY2025 to improve the convenience of its ticketing services.
Starting this fall, Ekinet will launch an “early reservation service” that will allow customers to purchase Shinkansen trains three months in advance of the boarding date. It will also launch an “online change/refund function in the event of transportation disruptions” and linkage with “JRE ID”. For foreign visitors to Japan, “Welcome Suica Mobile” and “JR-EAST Train Reservation” will be linked from October, enabling users to issue Suica cards and make reservations for reserved seats on Shinkansen and limited express trains with their own devices without having to stop by a ticket counter.
The start date and details of the service will be announced as soon as they are finalized. In addition, a new service specialized for Shinkansen trains in the JR East area is planned to be offered by the spring of 2026.
