Expo’s free Wi-Fi is easy if you download a profile in advance! Automatic connection once you enter the area

On April 13, the Osaka-Kansai Expo (EXPO 2025) will open in Yumeshima, Osaka. Here we report on scenes from the media day held prior to the opening of the Expo.

Free Wi-Fi access points are available at various locations at the Expo site, including rest areas, plazas, and around the gates. Some pavilions require the installation of an application, which may be useful for exchanging large amounts of data.

However, the free Wi-Fi at the Expo is not the “authenticate each connection” type that is common in commercial facilities and cafes, but rather a type where a profile is downloaded and installed on a device such as a smartphone.

This is in the same format as the e-mail settings and Wi-Fi spot connection settings provided by each cell phone carrier, and if installed in advance, the connection will automatically switch from 4G/5G to Wi-Fi once you are in the area.

It complies with the “OpenRoaming” standard set by the WBA, an industry association for public Wi-Fi, and the profile can be deployed on laptops as well as smartphones.
