On April 10, the Metropolitan Intercity Railway decided to name its new mascot character “Unir,” and after a final vote among four candidates, Unir received the most support.
The company’s Tsukuba Express celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and the “new employee” Yunior is scheduled to appear at anniversary events and in various other projects.
The name “unir” is a combination of the words “unicorn” and “rail,” and is also derived from the French and Spanish words “unir” meaning “to unite,” “to tie,” and “to connect.
