On June 3, JICA Vice President Katsura Miyazaki met with President John Dramani Mahama of the Republic of Ghana in Accra, the country’s capital during his visit.
At the beginning of the meeting, Vice President Miyazaki, who has worked at the Japanese Embassy in Ghana, congratulated the President on his inauguration and said that this is a special year with TICAD 9 to be held in Yokohama in August and the Osaka-Kansai Expo being held this year, and that he looks forward to the President and other senior Ghanaian government officials visiting Japan.
In response, President Mahama expressed his gratitude for Japan’s unwavering cooperation over the years and his deep feelings toward the JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers.
The two parties confirmed that they will further deepen their cooperation in anticipation of the year 2027, which will mark the 50th anniversary of the dispatch of JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers, the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and the 100th anniversary of Hideyo Noguchi’s trip to Ghana.
In addition, following the signing of a Grant Agreement (G/A) on the same day for the Japan Human Resources Development Scholarship (JDS) program, he expressed his hope that the program will produce young Ghanaian government officials who are not only knowledgeable in their fields of expertise, but also familiar with Japanese society and culture, through the support of their degree acquisition in Japan. He expressed his hope that the plan will produce young Ghanaian administrators who are not only knowledgeable in their fields of expertise but also in Japanese society and culture.
