JR East introduces new reserved-seat ticket vending machine. Supports Mobile Suica processing + Shinkansen ticket purchases; easy-to-understand top screen.

Posted on 2025-07-032025-07-03 by Editor in Chief

JR East will introduce a series of new reserved-seat ticket vending machines starting in July, with approximately 160 machines to be installed at about 20 stations, mainly in the Tokyo metropolitan area, in fiscal 2025.

The top menu of the new model features purpose-specific buttons for “Buy Ticket” and “Change Ticket” instead of the conventional “Reserved Seat” and “Non-reserved Seat” buttons. By reviewing the configuration and layout, the screen will be easier to understand at a glance. The screens of existing machines are also scheduled to be updated on October 1 (only ticket vending machines installed outside ticket gates).

The new model also supports Mobile Suica processing and Shinkansen ticket purchase. Until now, passengers using Mobile Suica for conventional lines had to wait in line at the “Midori-no madoguchi” to purchase a new ticket for the Shinkansen at a transfer station. After the introduction of the new machine, passengers will be able to use the ticket vending machine at the Shinkansen transfer entrance without standing in line at the ticket counter.

In addition, from October 1, ticket refunds (reserved-seat limited express tickets, reserved-seat tickets, etc.) for cancelled Shinkansen and limited express trains will be available, and refunds for Shinkansen limited express tickets and limited express fares in case of delays of two hours or more will also be available for Green limited express tickets and Tokaido, Sanyo, Kyushu, and Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen trains.
