On July 2, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) held a memorial ceremony jointly with the Government of Bangladesh and other organizations to commemorate the seven Japanese who lost their lives in the July 2016 terrorist attack in Dhaka (engaged in a preparatory survey for cooperation in the Dhaka urban transportation development project).
The ceremony was attended by Hideo Ishizuki, Director General, International Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan; Shinichi Saita, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh; Mohammed Ziaul Hock, Assistant Secretary, Road Transport Division, Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Bangladesh; Mohammad Hasan Arif, Assistant Secretary, Economic Relations Division, Ministry of Finance, Bangladesh; Mohammed Norearam, Director General, East Asian and Pacific Affairs Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh; Folk Ahmed, President, Bangladesh Urban Transport Company Limited; and others. Director General, East Asia and Pacific Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh; and Folk Ahmed, President, Bangladesh Dhaka Urban Transit Company, in the presence of Bangladeshi and Japanese government officials and bereaved families. Nine years after the terrorist attacks, the participants expressed their condolences to the victims and renewed their pledge for safety and peace.
