Rail access on the north side of Yumeshima, JR Yumesaki Line and Keihan Nakanoshima Line are considered to be superior.

Osaka Prefecture and Osaka City have released the results of their study on the superiority of rail access from the north side of Yumeshima, based on the views of the “Study Group on Yumeshima Access Railway.

The project is designed to be an integrated resort (IR) after the Osaka-Kansai Expo is over, and is expected to open around 2037. The report included the Nakanoshima New Line and Hokko Technoport Line between Nakanoshima and Yumeshima (via Nishi-Kujo and Shin-Sakurajima), the JR Sakurajima Line (JR Yumesaki Line) between Sakurajima and Yumeshima, and the Keihan Nakanoshima Line between Nakanoshima Station and Kujo Station as lines under consideration for comparison.

According to the study, the Hokko Technoport Line and Nakanoshima New Line proposals are estimated to carry 69,100 passengers/day and will not turn a profit within 40 years for a Type 3 railroad operator. On the other hand, the Sakurajima Line and Nakanoshima Line extension proposals are expected to carry a total of 121,000 passengers/day and to return to profitability within 40 years, and are superior in both cost-benefit analysis and income/expense estimation.

In addition, the extension of the Sakurajima Line will directly connect Shin-Osaka in Osaka and Yumeshima, which is estimated to improve accessibility and ease congestion on the Chuo Subway Line. It is also expected to create a tourist base that spans Universal Studios Japan and Yumeshima. The Nakanoshima Line extension will connect to the Hanshin Namba Line at Kujo Station, creating a new railroad network linking Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe.

On the other hand, in the case of the Hokko Technoport Line and the Nakanoshima New Line, although they will have an advantage in access to Nakanoshima and Kyoto, the shortest route to Osaka and Shin-Osaka will continue to be via the Chuo Line, which was judged to be less advantageous.

The company will proceed to study construction and operation plans for the proposed extension of the Sakurajima Line and Nakanoshima Line.
