Osaka Metro (Osaka City Rapid Transit) is running the Expo TDM touch payment campaign until October 13.
During off-peak hours (11:00 to 15:59), passengers who board or alight at any Osaka Metro station using a credit card or other touch payment method will receive an immediate cash refund of 30% of their fare. Eligible cards are as follows
Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners Club, Discover Card (credit, debit, prepaid)
UnionPay Card (credit)
*Non-plastic cards (smartphones, wearable devices, etc.) are also eligible.
If either entry or exit at a station is during off-peak hours, it is eligible for the campaign. (If either the departure or destination station is an Osaka Metro station, only the portion using Osaka Metro is eligible for the cash refund.)
The campaign is being developed with the cooperation of credit card companies (such as Sumitomo Mitsui Card) that have endorsed the “Expo TDM” initiative promoted by the Expo 2025 Osaka/Kansai Transportation Facilitation Promotion Council.
TDM stands for Transportation Demand Management, an initiative to reduce traffic congestion by encouraging rail and road users to adjust traffic generation sources and change times and routes.
