Hakodate has many attractions such as the million dollar night view, the Kanamori red brick warehouse district, the morning market, and delicious seafood, but the “churches and monasteries” introduced here are also one of its attractions. Hakodate Orthodox Church and Hakodate St. John’s Church can also be seen from the Hakodate Observatory.
The church is located slightly elevated above the town of Hakodate and can be seen on foot. During the daytime, under a blue sky, the unique architectural style is a joy to see. At night, the church is illuminated, creating a unique atmosphere.
Hakodate has a streetcar system that runs north, south, east and west through the center of the city, making it convenient to get anywhere. To see the church, take the streetcar from Hakodate Station and get off at Jujigai Station, which takes about 20 minutes.
Hakodate Haristos Orthodox Church has finished its conservation and repair work section, but there are times during the winter months when the church is closed to visitors. It is recommended to check the websites of the churches before visiting.
Churches have different atmospheres by day and by night. I hope you will plan a daytime and nighttime tour and take your time to see and be impressed.
