On January 20, JAL and JTA held a ceremony to send out “Japan’s earliest cherry blossoms” and displayed them at counters and lounges at 23 airports across Japan where the JAL Group operates.
The 45th Motobu Yaedake Cherry Blossom Festival will be held from January 21 in Motobu Town, Okinawa Prefecture, and the Ryukyu Kanhizakura cherry trees will be at their best there at this time. Kanhizakura is distributed mainly in southern China and Taiwan, and is regarded as “the earliest cherry blossom in Japan” because it blooms in Okinawa from January.
The company has been shipping and displaying these Ryukyu scarlet cherry blossoms at its domestic locations every year, and 2023 marks the 29th time this event has been held.
