The Japan Weather Association has released the first cherry blossom bloom forecast for 49 locations throughout Japan.
Cherry blossoms in 2023 are expected to be on par with normal throughout Japan. Some areas in the Kansai region are expected to bloom later than normal, while some areas in Hokuriku and Hokkaido are expected to bloom earlier than normal. Since many locations bloomed earlier than normal last year, most locations nationwide are expected to bloom later than last year.
This year’s cherry blossoms are expected to start blooming in Kochi on March 21, Fukuoka and Miyazaki on March 23, Nagasaki and Kumamoto on March 24, and many locations from Kyushu to Kanto by the end of March, with Tokyo, Yokohama and Nagoya blooming on March 26, Osaka on March 28 and Kanazawa on March 30.
In April, the cherry blossom front is expected to move north to Tohoku, blooming in Sendai on April 6 and in Fukushima on April 8. It is expected to reach Hokkaido by the end of the month, with Sapporo expected to bloom on April 29.
