Plans for an airport/expressway bus terminal and hotel in the east exit area of Shibuya Station. Next to Hikarie

Posted on 2023-02-07 by Editor in Chief

The Shibuya 2-chome West Urban Area Redevelopment Association, Tokyo Tatemono, and the Urban Renaissance Agency received approval from the Governor of Tokyo to establish an urban redevelopment association for the Shibuya 2-chome West Urban Area Redevelopment Project Type 1.

The redevelopment project, together with a voluntary joint rebuilding project led by Tokyo Tatemono and others, constitutes the Shibuya REGENERATION Project, a redevelopment project. The project was approved by the Prime Minister as a specific project in the National Strategic Special Zone in the Tokyo area, and the urban planning decision was notified in March 2022. The total project site area is approximately 18,800 m2, and the total floor area is approximately 322,200 m2, making it the largest project in the Shibuya area.

The project will strengthen the wide-area transportation function of Shibuya and improve the urban infrastructure of the East Exit area. In addition to a large-scale bus terminal, a pedestrian network extending from the station and a plaza that will serve as the center of liveliness will be developed. The bus terminal will also accommodate airport limousine buses, express passenger buses, and sightseeing buses. A wide deck connecting the various districts will be constructed to promote smooth pedestrian circulation from Shibuya Station.

The site will include a STEAM human resources development center and residential and accommodation facilities to meet the diverse needs of foreign residents and others. In addition to the placement of facilities to meet the demand for short-term stays at the medium- to long-term levels, residential facilities will also be provided to meet the demand for medium- to long-term stays.

In the event of a disaster, the city will strengthen its disaster preparedness by providing temporary indoor and outdoor accommodation for those who have difficulty returning home, and by utilizing the bus terminal to transport goods and provide alternative transportation services. In addition, the city aims to reduce environmental impact through the introduction of a con-generation system and the construction of district heating and cooling facilities.
