The Japan Camping Car Show 2023, organized by the Japan RV Association (JRVA), is being held at Makuhari Messe (Mihama-ku, Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture) in Exhibition Halls 1-5. The show runs from February 3 to 6.
The Japan Camping Car Show at Makuhari Messe is usually held around this time of year, and each time the show has expanded in size as the popularity of campers and overnight stays in cars grows each year. This year’s show will be held in a larger number of halls than in the past.
The Japan Camper Show selects the “Camper Award” for celebrities who love campervans and the outdoors, with the aim of educating and popularizing car trips enjoyed in campervans, and this year the award went to TV personality Keiichiro Koyama (NEWS).
At the Japan Camper Show, a camper (Balayage made by Toy Factory) loaned to Mr. Koyama by JRVA for one year was on display. This vehicle was not a production version, but a special version with customizations and decorations proposed by Mr. Koyama.
The Campervan Show 2023 is organized by the Japan RV Association (JRVA). So before introducing the venue, we asked Akinashi Sano of the JRVA secretariat about the recent campervan situation.
According to Mr. Sano, the camper market is in a steady state of growth, with both sales and production volume increasing significantly. In addition, the number of RV parks, which are overnight accommodations developed by “Kuruma Tabi Club,” a subsidiary of JRVA, to support campervan travel, has been steadily increasing, exceeding 300 nationwide. In February 2023, an RV park will open in Tottori Prefecture, which had never had an RV park before. This means that there are now RV parks in all 47 prefectures of Japan.
Incidentally, there are various types of facilities that call themselves RV parks, but all of them have in common that they offer safe and comfortable sleeping conditions, such as ample space, 24-hour restrooms on the premises, and 100 V power supply. While there are RV park-like facilities in other countries, most of them are just parking spaces, while Japanese RV parks, in addition to the aforementioned items, are often attached to hot spring facilities, for example, and offer a good environment for overnight stays.
