Carstay, 2022 Popularity Ranking of Spots to Stay in a Car. Nationwide No. 1 is South Hills, with spectacular views of Hokkaido

Posted on 2023-02-20 by Editor in Chief

Car stay, a vanlife booking platform, has released a ranking of the most popular spots for overnight stays in cars nationwide from January to December 2022.

No. 1 is South Hills, located on a hill in Kitami City, Hokkaido. The fact that visitors can stay overnight in their cars or auto-camp while enjoying spectacular views of the sunrise, sunset, and night scenery, and that it is equipped with a power supply and Wi-Fi is also a factor in its popularity, a trend that is beginning to attract travelers from distant locations due to the Corona Convergence.

Second place went to “Ouchi cafe utatane” in Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture. The restaurant was supported not only for its hot bath facilities, which are necessary for overnight car trips, but also for its value-added facilities, such as a lounge with free drinks and unlimited manga reading, and a working space where one can do work.

The other top 10 spots are as follows. In addition to the regional rankings (East Japan/West Japan), the official Car stay page also includes a ranking of overnight spots for the four years since the service started in 2019.
