JICA President Akihiko Tanaka met with Mongolian Minister of Finance Jabuhran at JICA headquarters on February 13.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Tanaka welcomed the Minister’s visit to Japan, expressing his respect for Minister Jabhuran’s leadership and strong promotion of Mongolia’s fiscal and economic policies in an increasingly uncertain international situation.
In response, Minister Jabufran expressed his gratitude for JICA’s 30 years of cooperation with Mongolia and expressed his hope for further development of bilateral relations. He also emphasized that the “Emergency Assistance Loan for the New Coronavirus Crisis” (loan agreement signed in October 2020), a yen loan provided by Japan in the severe environment of the coronavirus crisis, has brought Mongolia and Japan even closer together.
President Tanaka and Minister Jabufran exchanged views on the current macroeconomic situation and future prospects in Mongolia and the direction of future cooperation. Minister Jabufran mentioned that cooperation through the yen loans “Two Step Loan Project for SME Development and Environmental Conservation Phase 1 and 2” (loan agreements signed in 2006 and 2010) and the grant aid “Scholarship Program for Human Resource Development” (since 2001) have contributed to Mongolia’s economic growth and human resource development. President Tanaka also agreed with the proposal for more mutually beneficial economic cooperation between Japan and Mongolia, and further discussed the development of bilateral relations between the two countries.
