International Emergency Assistance for Earthquake Relief in the Syrian Arab Republic -Delivery of Donated Goods
Emergency relief supplies provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for earthquake damage in the Syrian Arab Republic arrived in the capital Damascus on February 15, local time.
The earthquake struck the northwestern part of the country, which borders Turkey. According to UN agencies, the earthquake left 1,414 people dead, 4 million affected, and 2 million still in serious condition in the Syrian Arab Republic. In the complicated regional situation, some people have reportedly been left behind to help. (2/15 OCHA Situation Report)
The emergency relief supplies were delivered to the victims through the Syrian Red Crescent Society (SARC), and were handed over at 3:30 p.m. on February 15 at the SARC warehouse in the presence of Mr. Khaled Habbati, President of SARC, Mr. Hiroshi Miyake, Charge d’Affaires of the Japanese Embassy in Syria, and JICA Syria Office staff.
