On March 7, HIMARU will open TACO GLAMP “THE MEXICO,” a resort facility that combines glamping and auto-camping at an abandoned school (former Joban Elementary School) in Tako-cho, Katori-gun, Chiba Prefecture, which has been converted into a resort.
Located 30 minutes by car from Narita Airport, it is said to offer a resort experience as if one were in Mexico. The former Joban Elementary School had a 145-year history, including its predecessor Matsuzaki Elementary School, which was closed in March 2020.
The site will cover an area of 30,000 m2. The school building will be renovated into a reception area, showers, and restrooms, the gymnasium into a trampoline field, the baseball field into an auto campground, the swimming pool into a night pool and sauna, and the schoolyard into a glamping site. A large clear dome night bar, an artificial hot spring private bath, a photo spot, and a karaoke room will also be installed.
Glamping sites include the “Kalpa Tent,” an ethnic tent shaped like an onion, the “Clear Dome Tent,” which is transparent 360 degrees, the standard “Dome Tent,” and the “Trailer House,” where you can spend time with your dog. The auto camping area will have 22 sites of 100m2 each and 6 sites of 200m2 each.
In addition, an opening event will be held on March 5 to celebrate the opening. For the festival, kitchen cars, traveling restaurants, and handicraft artists were recruited from Tako Town, and local artists, kids dancers, and the Tako High School brass band will give stage performances.
From 11:00 a.m., Remii Anri Doi, a native of Tako Town and captain of the Japanese men’s handball team for the Tokyo Olympics, and YouTuber “Kubotabi,” a van life couple who travel and live together, will give a talk event. The talk event will be broadcast live on Instagram.
