JICA President Akihiko Tanaka met online with World Bank Group President David Malpass on February 8.
President Tanaka and President Malpas met during the Deep Dive, an annual consultation between the World Bank Group and JICA that has been held every year since 2014, and confirmed a number of achievements in private sector finance, education, health, and other areas, as well as future collaboration on pressing issues such as food security, climate change, and energy transition. The two sides also confirmed a number of achievements in education, health, and other areas. The two organizations also confirmed that they will work more closely together in preparation for this year’s major diplomatic events, including the G7 Hiroshima Summit, the SDG Summit, and the 2nd Global Refugee Forum.
They further agreed to cooperate with both organizations in rehabilitation and reconstruction following the earthquake and tsunami that struck Turkey and Syria on February 6. In addition, the two sides exchanged views on the outlook for their respective countries, including debt problems and fiscal conditions, which are becoming more serious in several developing countries.
