Dispatch of International Emergency Relief Teams and Expert Teams for Earthquake Damage in the Republic of Turkey (First Report)
At the request of the Government of the Republic of Turkey, JICA will dispatch an international emergency relief team and a team of experts to the southeastern part of Turkey in response to the devastating earthquake that occurred there.

Disaster Situation
At 10:17 a.m. Japan time (4:17 a.m. local time) on February 6, a massive earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale struck the southeastern part of the Republic of Turkey. The country’s disaster management authorities reported 44,374 deaths and 115,000 injuries as of March 2.
Dispatch of International Emergency Relief Teams and Expert Teams
(1) Turkey has been repeatedly hit by major earthquakes that have caused extensive damage, and shares some of the same experiences with Japan in terms of rehabilitation, reconstruction, and disaster prevention. (2) Japan shares some experiences with Turkey in terms of rehabilitation, reconstruction, and disaster prevention. JICA has a track record of cooperation in the fields of earthquakes and disaster prevention.
(2) Japan has already provided assistance to the earthquake victims, including the rescue team of the Japan Disaster Relief Team (mission completed), the medical team of the Japan Disaster Relief Team (currently deployed in the area), and supplies.
(3) In addition, the Japanese government decided on March 3, based on a request from the government of the Republic of Turkey, to dispatch an international emergency relief team and a team of experts, and JICA has begun preparations for dispatching the team. An outline of the team is as follows
a. Purpose: To assess the condition of buildings and infrastructure damaged by the earthquake and provide technical advice for restoration and reconstruction.
(b) Composition: General/earthquake reconstruction, building planning and structure (2 persons), civil engineering structures, soil and ground, urban planning, utilities, social inclusion, housing, program formation/work coordination, assistance planning/work coordination Total 11 persons.
c. Schedule: Departure (Narita Airport) on Monday, March 6 Return (Narita Airport) on Thursday, March 16
d. Banding Ceremony: Scheduled for Monday, March 6, from 7:00 p.m. at Narita Airport Terminal 2 (Conference Room A3 on the 4th floor of the Main Building). Media companies are welcome to cover the event.
