JR West will begin accepting applications for monitors on March 6 in preparation for a demonstration experiment of a “face recognition ticket gate” at Osaka Station (Umekita area), which is scheduled to open on March 18.
The experiment will verify a new “ticketless authentication method” that uses the face as a key to build a next-generation transportation service that combines digital technology and the real world. Face recognition turnstiles will be installed at Osaka Station (Umekita underground entrance) and Shin-Osaka Station (East exit), allowing visitors to experience seamless travel between the two stations. Note that when passengers enter the ticket gates using facial recognition, they will need to exit the ticket gates using facial recognition.
Applications are accepted through a dedicated application page, or can also be registered through WESTER, a mobile lifestyle navigation application provided by JR West.
