Asahi Shimbun Publications has released “Rekishi Michi Vol. 26” featuring early modern castles around Japan from Weekly Asahi MOOK. The price is 990 yen.
The special feature “Great Castles of the 300 Clans of Edo” covers 179 famous castles in various regions of Japan from Hokkaido to Kyushu. The feature articles include “Edo Castle (Imperial Palace),” where many remains from the Edo period still exist; “Sunpu Castle,” guided by Tetsuo Owada, who was in charge of historical research for the historical drama “What to do about Ieyasu,” and “Cherry Blossoms Dancing! A Complete Guide to the Twelve Existing Castle Keeps” and other easy-to-understand explanations of what to see and how to look at castles. It also includes a history of the evolution of castles and a ranking of the popularity and strength of each castle.
