As part of its urban development efforts in the southern Tokyo area between Hamamatsucho and Oimachi stations, JR East will begin full-scale development of the “Oimachi Station Area Hiromachi District Development (tentative name)” with a total floor area of 260,000 m2 in April. The project is scheduled to open at the end of FY2025.
JR East will build a complex facility, while Shinagawa Ward will construct a new ward office building and other facilities. Specifically, a multi-level pedestrian deck will connect Oimachi Station and Shinagawa Central Park, with the first two levels of the deck being an elevated walkway on the Tokyu Oimachi Line, and the third level going from the station square past hotels and commercial facilities toward the park.
Oimachi Station itself will undergo improvements to the East Exit (3rd floor). New ticket gates and exits will be built to connect to the development area, and the concourse will be expanded. On the north side of the station, a bus and cab stand (1st floor) will be constructed to provide a barrier-free connection from the station.
The surrounding area will have three plazas: in front of the station, a gateway for meeting people, etc.; in the center, a central pedestrian deck; and near the park, a 4,600 m2 space that will serve as a center for events, community activities, and a wide-area evacuation center.
Adjacent to the plaza in front of the station is a facility housing rental housing, a hotel, and commercial facilities, with a restaurant, lounge, and rooftop bar. Next to it is an office building with a leased area of approximately 5,000m2 per floor. Near the park, a commercial facility with an open, out-mall structure will be constructed, and a cinema complex and other facilities will be opened. The commercial facility will have two floors above ground and two floors below with a total floor area of approximately 1,100m2 and a parking capacity of 106 cars.
