United Airlines has launched a new service that allows families to sit next to each other, fully effective in early March.
This allows a child under 12 years of age to be assigned a seat next to an accompanying adult free of charge, regardless of the type of ticket purchased. This also applies to passengers who purchased Basic Economy tickets.
With this feature, the online seat search engine checks for available economy class seats, and if necessary, also provides Preferred Seats (pre-selected paid seats) free of charge. If seats next to each other are not available due to last minute flight reservations, a flight being full, or an unscheduled aircraft change, the passenger can switch to another flight with the same class of service, destination, and availability of seats next to each other at no charge. If the fare differs between the first flight and the transferred flight, the difference will not be charged.
