JICA President Akihiko Tanaka met with Chairman of the Grand National Assembly of Mongolia Zandanshatar at JICA Headquarters on March 2.
At the outset, Chairman Zhandanshatar thanked JICA for its longstanding support for Mongolia’s democratization and market economy reforms. He noted that he considers the modernization of Japan as a model, and that the Chairman himself has advocated in the Congress “to develop like Japan,” and that he will continue to maintain the values shared by both countries, namely “democracy,” “freedom,” and “human rights.
President Tanaka expressed his hope that it is important to deepen friendly relations between Japan and Mongolia, and that the National Grand Council, which is the foundation of Mongolian democracy, will play an extremely important role in future reforms in the country.
Furthermore, President Tanaka and Chairman Zhandanshatar exchanged views on the future macroeconomic outlook for Mongolia and the direction of future cooperation, and both sides confirmed their commitment to the maintenance and development of good bilateral relations. Chairperson Zhandanshatal stressed the importance of industrial diversification for Mongolia’s medium- and long-term growth, and highly appreciated the yen loans “Two Step Loan Project for SME Development and Environmental Conservation (I) (II)” (L/A signed in 2006 and 2010). He also expressed his hope that the technical cooperation “Investment Promotion for Development of New City in Husig Valley, Tuv Province and Support Project for Development of Legal System Related to Free Economic Zone” to be launched in the future will further boost Mongolia’s economic development.
