JR West, in cooperation with NTT DoCoMo, KDDI, and SoftBank, will launch a cell phone communication service in tunnels.
The three lines covered are the Kosei Line (between Makino Station and Omi Shiotsu Station), the San’in Line (between Saga Arashiyama Station and Umabori Station), and the Hanwa Line (between Yamanaka-kei Station and Kii Station). Service on the Kosei Line and Sanin Line has already started on March 16 for all three companies, and on the Hanwa Line, KDDI and SoftBank lines have been available from the same day. NTT DOCOMO service on the Hanwa Line is scheduled to begin in late May.
