The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Record of Discussions (R/D) with the Government of Malaysia on April 10 in Johor Baharu regarding the technical cooperation project “Malaysia-Japan Linkage Office Enhancement Project of the Malaysia-Japan International Technical Institute. The R/D was signed.
The Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) opened in September 2011 under the umbrella of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia with the aim of promoting the acquisition of cutting-edge technical knowledge through research-oriented and laboratory-based Japanese-style engineering education.
JICA has contributed to strengthening Malaysia’s international competitiveness and producing human resources who can contribute to ASEAN industries by providing MJIIT with educational and research equipment and supporting the introduction of Japanese-style engineering education through yen loans and technical cooperation projects.
This project will establish a Malaysia-Japan Linkage Office (MJL) at MJIIT to further strengthen MJIIT’s education and research capabilities in order to enhance its capacity for university and industry-academia collaboration while leveraging past achievements.
Through the establishment and strengthening of MJL, MJIIT will contribute to becoming an important hub for collaboration between ASEAN and Japanese universities and industries, and contribute to SDG Goal 4 (quality education for all), Goal 8 (both job satisfaction and economic growth), and Goal 9 (create a foundation for industry and technological innovation).
