Osaka Prefecture, Osaka City, and Osaka IR (jointly owned by MGM Resorts Japan and ORIX) announced that the “Osaka Yumeshima District Specific Tourist Complex Area Development Plan” applied for on April 27, 2022, was approved by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation on April 14.
The plan is a public-private partnership aimed at realizing a world-class growth-oriented IR that will serve as an engine for sustainable economic growth in Osaka and the Kansai region. Based on the concept of “Water Capital of Connections,” a landmark space with elements of water and greenery will be developed throughout the total floor area of approximately 770,000m2.
The facilities include an international conference hall, exhibition hall, bus terminal, ferry terminal, and other passenger facilities, three types of lodging facilities (MGM Osaka/MGM Osaka Villa/MUSUBI Hotel) with a total of approximately 2,500 guest rooms, a 3,500-seat Yumeshima Theater, food, beverage, retail, and service facilities, and casino facilities (total floor area of approximately 65,000 m2, of which no more than 3% may be casino areas). The casino facility (no more than 3% of the total floor area of approximately 65,000 m2). The opening is scheduled for the fall or winter of 2029.
