The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Loan Agreement (L/A) with the Royal Government of Cambodia on April 27, 2012, for a loan of up to 2.482 billion yen for the “Rehabilitation and Improvement Project for Irrigation and Drainage Facilities in Southwestern Phnom Penh (Phase II)” in Phnom Penh.
This project aims to expand agricultural production in poor areas in Kompong Speu, Takeo, and Kandal provinces located in the southwestern part of Phnom Penh to contribute to the improvement of farmers’ livelihoods and recovery from new coronavirus infection by constructing irrigation facilities in the target areas. The project will contribute to Goals 1 (Eliminate poverty) and 2 (Zero hunger) of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).
The first phase (L/A signed in July 2014, 5,606 million yen) of the yen loan has already been provided for this project, and the current yen loan is for the second phase.
